Wholesale food distribution software for your ERP

Endpoint runs receiving, putaway, picking and counts by barcode scan, then sends the results to Sage, Acumatica, NetSuite or QuickBooks Online. Your ERP keeps the books.

Why food distributors outgrow the ERP's inventory screen

Most wholesale food distribution software on the market is a full ERP. If yours already handles orders and the books, the trouble is usually in the warehouse, where the ERP can't see.

In a dry goods warehouse, forty cases in a bin means forty cases you can promise. In a food warehouse, those forty cases might be three lots with three expiry dates, and the ERP shows one number.

Our post on food and beverage inventory management goes deeper on why a quantity on hand isn't enough to act on in food.

  • The system shows stock on hand, but the slot is empty because the pallet is still on the dock.
  • A picker takes the lot at the front of the rack, not the one that expires first, and the older lot ages out.
  • A customer buys by the case and pays by the pound, and the weight on the invoice is an estimate.
  • A customer asks which stores received one lot, and someone pulls pick sheets to find out.
  • A driver comes back with signed paper tickets that get keyed in a day or two later.

What Endpoint does for food and beverage distributors

What Endpoint covers depends on the edition, and the edition depends on your ERP. The table below compares them.

Lots and expiry dates

Lot numbers are captured by scan at receiving, and FIFO (first in, first out) or FEFO (first expired, first out) rules apply at the pick. Endpoint Cloud also traces a lot from the supplier who sent it to the customers who received it, so a recall can start from one lot number.

License plates in cold rooms

A license plate is one barcode on a pallet that stands for everything on it, so contents and location move together. In a freezer that means fewer scans per move and counts done by pallet. Our post on running a cold storage warehouse covers what else changes.

Catch weight

With the Warehouse Professional package, Endpoint for Sage 100 sells, ships and invoices by actual weight while the warehouse handles goods in cases.

Route delivery and proof of delivery

On Sage 100, drivers and route reps use the Mobile Sales add-on to take orders in the field, capture a signature and email or print the receipt.

Endpoint for Sage runs inside Sage 100 and posts to it directly. It also runs inside Sage 300 and Sage 500, and Endpoint for Sage Intacct covers Sage Intacct, each with a different set of capabilities, so check the table against your edition.

Endpoint for Acumatica runs inside Acumatica. Inventory updates in real time, and there is no middleware to build or reconcile.

Endpoint Cloud is its own system and connects to NetSuite, QuickBooks Online and Sage 100. With Sage 100, transactions sync on a schedule you set, as often as once a minute, and finance reviews and posts them in Sage.

Whichever edition you run, the ERP stays the system of record for cost and the general ledger. Our page on what warehouse software adds to an ERP explains where the line between the two sits.

FSMA 204 and the foods you hold

If you hold foods on the FDA's Food Traceability List, the rule asks for traceability records you can produce within 24 hours of a request. Our FSMA 204 guide covers what the rule asks for and who is covered.

Nov 2022

FDA publishes the Food Traceability Rule.

Jan 20, 2026

The original compliance date, since pushed back.

July 20, 2028

Earliest FDA enforcement. Congress barred enforcement before this date in November 2025.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a food distribution ERP or warehouse software?

It depends on where the problem is. A food distribution ERP replaces your accounting and order system along with everything else. If your ERP does the accounting and order work well and the trouble is in the warehouse (wrong lots, lost pallets, counts that never match), software that works alongside the ERP is the smaller change. That is the route Endpoint takes.

What software do wholesale food distributors use?

Most run an ERP or accounting system for orders and the financial record, plus a warehouse management system for the warehouse work, with barcode scanners and label printers to capture each step. Distributors that run their own trucks often add route delivery software for drivers.

Does Endpoint handle catch weight?

Yes, in Endpoint for Sage 100. Catch weight comes with the Warehouse Professional package and lets you sell, ship and invoice by actual weight while you handle goods in cases. It is not part of Endpoint Cloud or Endpoint for Acumatica.

Can Endpoint help with FSMA 204?

Endpoint Cloud captures lot numbers by scan at receiving and traces each lot forward to customers and back to suppliers. The rule's traceability records are built from that kind of data. Whether your business is covered, and which records you must keep, is set by the rule itself. Our FSMA 204 guide walks through both.
